Answers to Commonly Asked Questions from Students and Parents

- Where and when will the seminar be held?
- The seminar will take place at College of Idaho located in Caldwell, Idaho. Seminar participants may register any time after 7:30 a.m. but before 8:45 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2008. The seminar will begin with Orientation on June 13, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. and conclude with Closing Ceremonies on June 15, 2008 at approximately 3:30 p.m. You must be present for the entire seminar, including overnight.
- Where should I go when I arrive?M
- When you reach the campus you will find clearly marked entrances along with signs and OUTSTANDING HOBY-Idaho staff members to provide directions. The address for the College of Idaho is 2112 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, ID. If you need directions, please call Ben Blaker (208) 310-6762 or Kevin Kluckhohn (208) 371-1669.
- What are the accommodations like?
- HOBY Idaho has reserved the entire College of Idaho campus, providing a safe and inviting environment for ambassadors. Participants will be assigned to Residence Hall rooms with two to four participants per room. Linens will not be provided, therefore please be sure to pack sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases, towels, etc... All meals will be provided, beginning with lunch on Friday, June 13, 2008. Please indicate on the Medical History Records Form, any special dietary considerations, including vegetarianism, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
- What if I need to arrive early?
- Students who need to arrive early should call Ben Blaker (208) 310-6762 or Kevin Kluckhohn (208) 371-1669 to make early arrival arrangements.
- NOTE: An additional fee of $30 will be charged to students arriving early. This fee includes room, dinner, and breakfast. Dinner will be served no later than 7:30 p.m.
- What transportation arrangements have been made?
- You are responsible for your transportation to and from the seminar. Please include all details of your itinerary on the enclosed Participant Confirmation Form. If any plans change from the Participant Confirmation Form, please notify Ben Blaker (208) 310-6762.
- What arrangements have been made if I arrive by plane?
- Students arriving by plane, need to plan for a 45 minute drive from the airport to the College of Idaho and plan accordingly. Students who are arriving by plane need to fill out the travel itinerary and include the time of arrival, carrier and the flight number. Please also call Ben Blaker (208) 310-6762 or Kevin Kluckhohn (208) 371-1669. ALL Students are responsible for transportation arrangements to and from the seminar site. We have made arrangements with Yellow Cab for a discounted fair. Please contact them prior to your arrival at (208) 345-5555 and mention you are with HOBY.
- What if I need to take medication while I am at the seminar?
- Your health and safety is very important to our staff, therefore please provide any and all information about your medication on the Medical History Records Form and bring the Physician Medication Verification Form with you to the seminar (documents are included in this packet). Please read and comply with the Policy for Use of Medication during a HOBY Event. If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication, please do not hesitate to contact Ben Blaker or Kevin Kluckhohn.
- If necessary, how may I be contacted during the seminar?
- Parents, friends, and family members are discouraged from calling students during the seminar due to the disruption caused to panels, activities and students’ learning. Students are discouraged from bringing cell phones to the seminar. In case of emergency, your parent(s) or guardian may call Ben Blaker (208) 310-6762 or Kevin Kluckhohn (208) 371-1669. The seminar will be chaperoned by qualified adults who are with the students 24 hours a day.
- What should I wear at the seminar?
- Dress is casual throughout the weekend, except on Sunday we ask that you “dress-up.” You will be provided a HOBY t-shirt which you will wear on Friday and Saturday. We expect that you would dress appropriately as you do at school. If you have any questions regarding the dress code, you will be receiving a call from your group facilitator prior to the seminar to discuss any questions you might have.
- Do I need any money at HOBY?
- The seminar will provide all your meals and transportation during the seminar. If you are flying in you will need money for a taxi fare. We will also have a HOBY store during the seminar with several different items for sale. These items range in price from $5.00 to $35.00. Cash or Checks are all we can take at the seminar.
- What if I am unable to attend the seminar?
- If circumstances arise that prevent you from attending the entire seminar, including overnight, we would like to give another student the opportunity to attend. Please return these forms to the person at your school who selected you, and follow up by contacting Ben Blaker (208) 310-6762.
- What action should I take now?
- With your parent or guardian, carefully review, complete and sign the forms enclosed with this packet and email them to recruitment@hoby-idaho.org by May 1, 2008. If you prefer to fax or mail the forms, please contact Ben at recruitment@hoby-idaho.org or (208) 310-6762 to make arrangements.
